Taveuni Shopping
If you are looking for extensive shopping malls, with designer label boutique shops and department stores ... you will not find these in Taveuni! Life on Taveuni is laid back, island-style. There are general stores to be found in most of the small towns. Somosomo (the island's main 'chiefly' village has a number of small shops and stores. At Waiyevo one can find the main post office, the small courthouse, Telecom office, the island's hospital, and other similar government offices. Further along the coast, Waikiriki boasts the island's only cinema, the Meridien, so called as it is very close to the 180 degree longitude meridien, halfway around the world from the 0 degree meridien at Greenwich in London. There are a few stores here too, including fabric shops. One can buy local handicrafts in Taveuni, and the Resorts here usually have their own gift shops. Otherwise, remember to bring some Fijian dollars with you as if you visit a village, you may be able to buy hand-crafted souvenirs direct from the local Fijian ladies.
